~ BITS & PIECES ~

Natural Selection

We dickered over coffee
As cowboys often will,
But ol' "Bones" said his price was firm,
At a hundred dollar bill.

We wandered out to the barn,
To choose which puppy I would take,
Look each one over carefully,
judge what kind of dog they'll make!

There's a hundred old wives tales,
On how to choose a dog that's tough,
By looking in their eye or mouth,
Or grabbing them by the scruff.

A good cow dog must be bold,
Smart and faithful as can be,
So I sat down and waited,
To see which puppy would choose me!

Mike Puhallo
