In a deal effective Jan. 1, Blue Ridge Aquaculture Inc. of Martinsville, Va., purchased Mingo County-based West Virginia Aqua LLC, which has produced arctic char. Under the new company, West Virginia Aqua will shift its focus to the production of saltwater salmon, said Bill Martin, Blue Ridge's founder and president. "We'll be raising salmon and steelhead (trout) there," he said. "We think our operation there is a good opportunity for West Virginia and for us."
